The Client

When the CEO stepped into the role of a mid-sized medical not for profit (NFP), they had questions about their existing cyber security position and posture. They wanted an external in-depth perspective that could identify the organisation’s true position around the current high visibility landscape of cyber security. And given the high profile attacks in recent times on large organisations including Optus, Medibank and QUT, this client is aware of the critical need to audit and improve cyber security across their firm, which is a key part of what Aegis Cyber Security provides.

The Need

The company needed a cyber security expert, which was introduced to them via Cymax, a leading Managed Service Provider (MSP) who was engaged to provide a digital transformation body of work as well as a cyber security assessment/audit. The latter of which, Aegis Cyber Security was engaged to perform.

Aegis assessed their existing cyber security frameworks, current gaps, and remediation recommendations prioritised to address key risks. These assessments would enable the NFP to better protect their client data, as well as provide supporting evidence they’re effectively doing this — aiding and increasing their ability to be awarded noteable contracts with state agencies and regulators.

“Government agencies and other companies are more frequently citing cyber security configurations as an assessable criteria in tender responses. Not having adequate security, controls or standards in place will reflect adversely on their response and capabilities. We were able to ensure this medical NFP had more than adequately met these requirements,” Luke said.

Aegis conducted an evaluation of the NFP’s existing cyber security systems, including how they were managed and maintained; their implementation and design; and how it tied into the company’s overall objectives. These findings were fed into assessment tools to map and align them to the ISO27001, NIST 800-53, and SOC2 frameworks.

From these reports, the gaps around processes, technologies, and controls could be clearly evaluated and remediation action plans developed.

The Outcome

The assessment approach was then complemented by Luke’s two-decades of experience in IT and cyber security, to interpret the findings, and the how and why it should be fixed when viewed through a lens of risk for the business.

After the initial project scope was delivered, the partnership was extended into ongoing security management support. This involves ongoing evaluations to ensure the protection of business and client data is maintained at the highest level.

Aegis Cyber Security is relied upon to provide proactive management and identify emerging needs and risks the medical NFP may encounter. This is partnered with providing tailored advice to ensure their cyber security program aligns with their business goals for the short and long term.
